Oddisee feat. Tranquill “Ci’iy Life”
In this video, there was minimum detail, yet the animation looked more than 2-Dimensional. It was a bumpy showing of different streets and scenes in the city. The style of the production looked almost paper-like, with a crumpled up texture. The video reminds me of an animatic, where you sort of give a feel as to what is on the screen, with minimal movement.
Zero 7 “Destiny”
In this video, the animation looks almost life-like. This is a video where I think all the scenes were recorded via camera, and then traced over in vector form, which makes the animation flow as if it were really happening. There are some scenes and features within the peoples face where the use the principle of animation of exaggeration. Most of the video was in black and white, then in the end, in became a scene in color in which the artist was alone. I’m thinking that this video was a daydream about love and destiny.
He’s Barack Obama
This video had a lot more movement, as to what we’re dealing with in this class. There was a lot of principles of animation used throughout the video because of the constant movement of the super hero Obama. From exaggeration in moving quickly, anticipation and follow-through in his punching, and secondary action on his clothes when he was flying, this video was a great example to see and reference for our own individual projects. I thought the video was funny, but I really like the comic book feel of it.
Uncle Globey & Friends
In this video, it’s a mixture of real footage from a camera and animation. Mr. Globey seems to be made of clay, which means they used stop fram animation for the movement of Mr. Globey. There also seemed to have a lot of special effects, which was most likely done in postproduction via After Effects. I think the video was very funny and entertaining, but not appropriate for kids.
A History of Evil
The style in this video seemed to look like the art movement of minmalism. The video is mostly black and white with very minimal color. There is a lot of use of principles of animation within the video including exaggeration and anticipation. There are also the uses of sound effects, which are done in postproduction. The video was filled with a smooth flow as it transitioned to different scenes.
Self-fulfilling – Beady Belle
This animation is completely filled of stop, frame-by-frame animation, as all the characters seemed to be made of clay. I like the smoothness they are still able to convey in the movement of the characters. It shows how well the animators experimented with arcs in the movement of the characters bodies. This video is very cool, and reminds me of my high school days when I was very interested in dance and choreography.
Prada – Trembled Blossoms
The animation in this video is incredible. I think all of it was done digitally, and I liked how the animators used a lot of different camera angles. From over the shoulder, and even the use of bokeh, the animation seems to come life. The use of color, and by giving the character personality, the audience is highly engaged in the video. A lot of secondary action can be found throughout the whole video as well.
NASA – Money:
In this animation there is constant moving in the background. This can be associated with the principle animation of secondary action. It shows that there is life in the background. Also, they use an effect where the background moves in swirls, which reminds me of a kaleidoscope. I also noticed that they constantly use the brand of “Obey” which is a common street wear clothing brand worn by adolescences in today’s age. They use common artwork used by the brand. I think the video could also be described as a fancy animatic.
Black Day to Freedom
The style of this video can also be described as an anamatic, but there is a lot of principles used to show depth in the video. Exaggeration and secondary effect are a few to name amongst the many. The animation in this video is paper style, but by having the background pan it looks three-dimensional. The video is very gruesome for an animation and is difficult to watch, but it told a good story.
Georggia Anne Muldrow – Run Away
The animation in this music video has a retro feel, like the way animation used to be made for television and cartoons. There is minimal detail used, so the animation looks flat in a lot of the scenes. There is a butterfly in the video, which reminds me of the tutorial we did for animation. However, ours looks a lot smoother, which means that this video must have used less key frames.
